In Southern Africa, an American internet billionaire dies in a freak bungee jumping accident. A few months later in Tokyo, a wealthy Japanese business executive is killed in the crossfire of a Yakuza gang gun battle. Over three years, five well-heeled people die in accidental ways. A classified U.S. government computer program concludes the deaths are connected. The case is referred to the FBI, and former Special Agent Nick Sanders, nursing himself back to health after being shot in the line of duty, is lured back into service. Sanders, a jaded and wise-cracking investigator, sees things very simply. He is certain of one thing about the case; it's about the money. It always is.
Nick soon learns that all five victims shared two things in common the same lawyer and the same bank. Alexandra Conrad, a Homeland Security analyst who is already scrutinizing the bank and thinks it is using client money to fund illegal arms sales, teams up with Sanders to investigate. The lawyer is killed in a Manhattan bombing and the investigation opens the door on a conspiracy orchestrated by a ruthless Central American businessman. As Sanders and Conrad dig deeper, a betrayal within Sanders' own team will upend a carefully planned government operation and put both Sanders' and Conrad's lives in jeopardy. And Sanders will discover that his long-held, overarching principle is wrong; it's not always about the money.

So Who Stars in the Movie? This wild ride begins with a more than memorable bungee jump. With international intrigue a la Daniel Silva, a main character out of some forgotten relationship between Raymond Chandler and Ben Bernanke, and settings from the jungles of Columbia to the jungles of Wall Street, The Trust Company (see if you notice the AK 47 on the cover) uses multiple points of view, all effective. But the voice of Nick Sanders, FBI consultant, wisecracks his way into the lead.
Sanders, a good guy who's not unwilling to walk on the dark side, yin-yangs with John Lester, already living on the dark side but willing to re-visit good's golden country. In an era where the anti-hero has come to dominate the action-suspense thriller, author Paul N. Stam has created not one, but two comfortably original characters, protagonist and antagonist certainly (the good guys and the bad guys are clear in this tale), but both compelling. And the women aren't bad either.
I'm pretty good at predicting plot twists in suspense-thriller novels; I even prophesy most of Jeffery Deavers's, and he is the master. I love Michael Connelly, but he's predictable. Steve Berry writes a good yarn, but again, I see most of his coming. I saw some of Stam's twists coming, but at least one caught me completely off guard, despite all the clues evident in hindsight. I love a writer who can do that.
"A man can do a lot in three seconds." If a reader wants to find out just what that might include, learn more than Wall Street would like anyone to know about international banking, and glimpse still another take on the rivalry between the multitudinous federal agencies all chartered and tax-supported to protect us, The Trust Company showcases a new voice and a new perspective to the genre. This reader's hoping for a chance to revisit Nick Sanders and his companions on another caper.

The Trust Company edition by Paul Stam Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Stam's written an outstanding page turning story and keeps you guessing the whole way. He brings together political thriller and murder mystery with a splash of Jason Borne action as Nick Sanders uncovers a complex web of motives.....fighting killers, reveloutionaries and scammers to help bring justice AND the truth. Most impressively, the story gets harder to put down as the pages turn. Even to the last word, i had to know what happend next!
An absolute page turner, written by someone who knows not only the securities industry and the law well; but even more so knows how to write a great thriller novel. He keeps the reader on edge throughout! It is hard to believe that this is his first novel. I can't wait for the second and then the full series to follow! Who has bought the movie rights!? Well done!
Good read for those who enjoy an action thriller with a financial bent. A little slow to start but picked up speed and had a good ending. Look forward to following the main characters into the second book.
This was the best "first book published" novel that I've read in many years, and in this genre, probably the best. I thought the plot, the character development, and the dialogue was incredibly professional and read more like the 5th novel of a very successful suspense author.
I sincerely hope that author Paul Stam has more to write, because his work is most enjoyable.

Wonderful book, great insights and knowledge of financial fields, military strategy, and inner-workings of the CIA and FBI. Lots of fun. Keeps you guessing. Equally as good as Nelson DeMille and Lee Child, which is saying something.
Paul Stam writes a captivating page turner, and its hard not to like Nick Sanders. Some of the twists were a little hard to fathom, hence only four stars, but overall an enjoyable first read of his work and look forward to more of Nick Sanders
Though I just purchased this book here today to send to a friend, I am reviewing it based off another copy I purchased a few weeks ago. I've always been an avid reader of everything from WWII history to Clancy, Shogun to the Bourne series, but lately I've definitely settled more into the spy thrillers. After a great opening, the book started a little slow for me, but about a third of the way in there is a terrorist incident that really kicks the pace into gear. The mix of first and third person writing with some stream of consciousness sprinkled in was cool and it caused me to be a lot more analytical as I read the book and even outside of my reading over the course of the week or so it took me to finish it. Really like the protaganist and the supporting characters - really, really like the John Lester and Paul Blattman characters. They could spawn another series if Stam has the time to write many more of these. Overall, highly recommended.
